Surval Boutique Olive Estate is one of those places you know you will be back to on arrival.
Situated at the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountain range (a UNESCO World Heritage site) in the Klein Karoo, Surval Boutique Olive Estate offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Schoemanshoek Valley.
We love Oudtshoorn and stay in the area every year doing some cycling and hiking trips. Choosing Surval was easy and based on the welcome sentence on their website:
“We invite you to a luxurious and exclusive world where time stands still, letting you savour every moment and leaving nothing to be desired. “
If you love nature you will enjoy driving pass cornfields with mountain views and fields and fields of olive orchards. We were greeted by a very friendly staff and lovely professional receptionist who briefly explained the surroundings: restaurant, bar, gardens, pool area, olive fields and directed us to our room named: Niçoise.
Out of over 23 Stylish and luxurious rooms our was very specious and full of light which we loved. Very Comfortable bed, open plan bathroom with bath and separate shower, mini bar fridge, telephone, wifi connection (note: fast internet), satellite television, lovely bathroom amenities, aircon, great selection of magazines and books.
Our Room was facing outdoor pool area and what we enjoyed the most was spectacular mountain view at sunset and sunrise. This was a place where guests enjoyed their lazy days soaking up some sun, enjoying cocktails and relaxing watching the nature around or read the book.
There was so much to do and see – on the first afternoon we walked around the estate enjoying the surroundings of mountains, olive trees, an amazing bird life, water fountains, hidden spots to relax like made of an old bath swing, green grass and lavender bushes. We have discovered running trails as well as cycling trails (which we did the next day and had a great fun!), Willow Dam with kayaks and a row boat available. One could enjoy olive tasting and learn about olive production. All that to simply make you fall in love with Surval.
We had to take an advantage and lay on the green grass just to enjoy the moment. Would’t you?
Surval offers so much for it’s visitors (also catering for families with children – BONUS).
A cherry on top of our experience was Su Casa Restaurant (which means “your home”) offering an elegant dining experience. And how they like to describe, the menu is a…
“reflection on the past, paying homage to the classic flavours and dishes that have stood the test of time.”
We loved breakfast – with great variety to choose from, and dinners with tasty and very well presented food (prices are higher that the average but worth the experience). Service was friendly, food made with love, pure delight.
Daniel, Hugo and the Team are doing more than expected to make sure their guests have the most memorable experiences while staying at Surval. And that is what we looking for.
We were so sad to leave especially after being so well looked after but made a promise to return as soon as we can.
