Augusta de Mist is located in beautiful Swellendam around 3hrs drive from Cape Town. Set on a 2 hectare estate with beautiful gardens it’s a truly hidden gem waiting to be discovered.
We arrived and were blown away how green and peaceful Augusta de Mist is. We were thrown into the tranquility of the place awaiting to share more surprises for us.
Our host Michele welcomed us warmly and showed around the homestead and surroundings. Its a place that reflect passion and hard work. You can see it through immaculate attention to detail, small little touches you wouldn’t expect and interest to get to know their guests and make sure their stay is a memorable one.
Our room, or rather cottage suite (Protea Garden Suite) was private, very specious and amazingly decorated. Two bedrooms, bathroom with Victorian bath and separate shower, sitting area with fire place, mini bar, TV, music station, complimentary tea & coffee facilities, home baked biscuits, wi-fi, aircon, safe … oh and own parking. Ideal!
We loved the quirky and vibrant decor through out the property and our suite – unique artwork proudly on the walls, pieces from local markets, antique furniture’s “all with a story”.
Bathroom with beautiful Victorian bath and lovely rain shower, including all the amenities (and bubble-bath!), towels, bathrobes and everything else you might need.
The Gardens at Augusta de Mist are amazing. Especially created paths invites visitors to explore this beautiful heritage garden full of roses, lavender, proteas, the most amazing willow tree, aloe plants – real heaven for bird and nature lovers.
Large pool area awaits those for some “me time” on a warm, relaxing and lazy day.
Every corner hides little sitting spot that awaits you to slow down and enjoy the nature.
It’s something every traveller is looking for during their stay its simply peacefulness and tranquility of the place – afternoon walk around the gardens and watching sunset skies before dinner definitely puts you in the right mood.
In anticipation we waited for our 6 course dinner evening at African Kitchen – and it only confirmed all the good things we heard about it. Menu crated with love and using only local ingredients as well as vegetables and herbs grown at Augusta de Mist’s own garden. Cosy dinning area with perfect choice of background music. Attentive host and knowledgeable staff made an evening a real treat. Dishes to surprise even the biggest foodie including:
Waking up to breakfast experience was another cherry on top and perfect ending to our stay in Augusta de Mist. Served on the “stoep” of the main house with a lovely view of their gardens.
Freshly baked muffins and breads were served, home made preserves and stewed fruit, hot breakfast option cooked with love & delicious coffee all made with love…no wonder we enjoyed our breakfast for 2 hours.
We were very sad to leave. All the personal touches, special hosts and great service made our stay memorable one.
And how they say on their website “This little hotel will steal your heart” – they definitely stole mine…
