If you are looking for a beach getaway, look no further – you going to love this one the way we did…
Draaihoek Lodge is located around 2 hrs drive from Cape Town up West Coast of South Africa between the towns Dwarskersbos and Elandsbay. This is a place that ticks all the boxes for your perfect beach getaway and here is why…
ONE: being perfect beach destination Draaihoek Lodge is located close to the beach. In fact you feel like you sleeping on the beach – the cottages are located within a short walking distance to the most beautiful one. You can enjoy the sound of waves at night and beautiful morning breeze when you wake up.
TWO: cottages are equipped with everything you need; lovely patio outside each cottage allows you to some R&R moment and to soak up the views. Lovely appointed bathroom, with towels and Rooibos amenities provided, plenty cupboard space; comfortable open plan bedroom with a lounge area, including a desk and sandstone fireplace -perfect for those chilly evenings. Kings size beds with luxury linen, tea & coffee trays with home-made biscuits, mini fridge, telephone and wifi. Cottages doesn’t have TV – but who would be sitting and watching TV in such a beautiful place.
“The luxurious Manor House boasts deluxe bedrooms, a spacious lounge area fitted with open fireplace and a sleek kitchen — all with access to a large wrap around stoep with exquisite views of the vlei and rugged dune landscape surrounding.”*
THREE: it’s a perfect getaway for Families, Couple and Friends travelling together. And all the Beach bums!
FOUR: except the ideal location, Draaihoek Lodge offers really pretty solar heated pool and lapa where you can relax and unwind too. Loungers and umbrellas, pool towels available for guests use. We really liked outdoor shower area with beautiful succulent plants around.
FIVE: the lodge is located in a private reserve – many walking routes are available for guest. Morning or afternoon walks are beautiful. You can stumble upon roaming springboks as well as other living creatures – so beware.
“The private Nature Reserve reaches from the Atlantic ocean inland to Sandveld’s mountain range and across to the Verlorenvlei, a RAMSAR classified site, south of Elands Bay.
The coastal border of the Reserve stretches along an undisturbed sandy beach, hugged by rugged dunes and favoured by flocks of birds typical to the West Coast. The uninhabited bay area is frequented by whales, seals and playing Heaviside dolphins.”*
“A huge diversity of birdlife is thriving in the Reserve, both in the unspoiled, deserted veld and beach as well as closer to the Lodge. Keen birders are welcome to the Bird Hide, erected at one of the dams close to the Lodge, frequented by resident waterfowl.”*
SIX: dining at Draaihoek Lodge is a very pleasant and relaxed experience. Staff is very friendly and talks you through the menu and options for the evening – “mouth-watering classics and gourmet dishes prepared by the kitchen team.” *
You can enjoy your dinners inside the dining area or outside on the terrace overlooking the sand dunes, watching sun going down.
Quirky decor through out adds to the and mood makes the experience very special. We loved their background music choice too.
Welcoming Lounge awaits should you wish to enjoy pre-dinner drinks or just a peaceful read from the selection of their books and magazines.
All meals are served with quality wines selected from their cellar or other beverages from the menu.
Breakfast and Lunches are served in the same area daily, for guests convenience.
Draaihoek Lodge was one of those discoveries that we loved since we arrived. Everything about the place is just right and you have no choice than just relax.
And how Wyland said “The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul” – that is how you leave Draaihoek Lodge.
