As an avid explorer I am always extremely excited to share my discoveries with you and this time is no different.
We have visited Paternoster once again; one of the West Coast’s most popular holiday destinations as well as the oldest fishing village in South Africa. It is situated 15 km north-west of Vredenburg and 145 km north of Cape Town. So the perfect weekend getaway as well as a holiday spot favoured by many. Paternoster is often referred to as the “South African Greece”. It offers an abundance of things to do, be it galleries, shops, sea side restaurants and of course a stunning beach.
The Smuggler’s Cottage is located on the quieter side of Paternoster a mere 50 meters form the beach. and it is a perfect for families travelling with kids and pets. Yes, The Smuggler’s Cottage is pet friendly making it extra special.
The Cottage consists of a generous kitchen, dining room area, lounge and 3 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The pool area includes braai facilities and a leisure area.
Our spacious room, Abdol’s Cave overlooked the pool and included
interleading Room 4 with twin beds. The room was clean and catered for all facilities
needed: mini bar fridge, towels, bathrobes, safe, extra blankets and bathroom
amenities like soap, shampoo and shower gel.
The room has direct access to the pool courtyard on the upper level. We spend time swimming and relaxing around the pool whilst enjoying the magnificent views of the picturesque village. The lounge is charmingly appointed with lots of interesting books, TV and a substantial fireplace for those cooler West Coast evenings.
NOTE: there is no TV in the rooms. WIFI is weak; then again you don’t visit the West Coast to watch TV. It reminds of the saying: ‘’to lose your mind and find your soul.”
Aside from the coziness of the cottage, the exceptional service is what makes it special and ensures return visits. A formidable team of 3 looks after you and advices on restaurants and activities in the area.
A delectable West Coast Breakfast served outside ( weather permitting) includes local preserves, fruit, yoghurt, and home-cooked options to your heart’s delight.
NOTE: All Coffee snobs; the coffee is good – strong and aromatic.
The Smuggler’s Cottage is one of the most relaxing getaways I have ever stayed at. Everything is Homely and just so right. If you searching for that super-chilled getaway. This is it.
Rates start from R1150 for a double room.
