Every year in mid-November new version of ICE HOTEL is being built by a team of snow builders, architects, designers and artists from all over the world gather in the little town of Jukkasjärvi far north of the Arctic Circle. Nothing remains the same.

This season (Winter 2011/2012) ICE HOTEL opened its doors for the twenty-second time onthe 3rd December 2011with 47 rooms. ICE HOTEL covers 5 500 square metres and is constructed from 1 000 tonnes of Torne Riverice and 30 000 tonnes of ‘snice’, a mixture of snow and ice that strengthens the structure.

Warm & Cold Accommodation

At ICE HOTEL you can choose from two types of accommodation – warm and cold. Recommended is to combine one cold night in art or deluxe suite, ice or snow room ( -5 °C to -8 °C) with several warm nights in ICE HOTEL rooms and chalets.

How to dress for cold and sleep in cold?

When you check in to the ICE HOTEL you will be explained everything from where is your locker, where to store your clothes and luggage, and you will be shown around. When it’s time for bed, you pick up a sleeping bag (single or double) from reception. Recommended is to sleep in thermal underwear and woollen hat. Your luggage will be stored in a locked luggage room during your stay. If you bring it to your room, it will freeze during the night. Warm bathrooms, showers and a sauna are in the warm building connected to the ICE HOTEL.

If you need to use the bathroom during the night, you’ll have to get out of your sleeping bag and go the warm building.

Around7.30 am, you will be awaken by one of the guides and served hot lingonberry juice by the bed. In the warm building, you can enjoy a warm morning sauna before going to ICE HOTEL Restaurant for breakfast.
