Medjumbe Private Island in situated in the heart of the Quirimbas Archipelago in northern Mozambique, and is set on a remote island that’s only one kilometre long and 500 metres wide. Think complete exclusivity and secluded passion with warm white sands, glittering turquoise sea, shady palm trees and beautiful coral reefs as your romantic backdrop.

There are only 13 chalets on the island so quiet time is guaranteed and each offers its own private plunge pool. Wonderful, friendly staff will cater to your every whim, fresh seafood and other gourmet treats will delight and for the more adventurous, there are plenty of beach and water activities, including renowned diving sites that begged to be explored.

And the activity enthusiast can also rest assured that there is an outlet for all the days of indulgence in the form of Medjumbe’s new ‘gym in a basket’ aka the Med-gym-be Basket! Locally-made baskets have been placed in each beach chalet and contain the following items: 1 and 2kg dumb bells, jump rope, resistance bands (with instructions and exercises) and a Yoga mat; perfect for those guests who want the best of both worlds, relaxation and activity, on demand. And it’s for a good cause too, as the baskets are hand-made by the Artisans Association in the Cabot Delgado province of northern Mozambique, which is a worthy and supported community initiative.

Rani Resorts has made choosing a luxury honeymoon destination that much easier with its fabulous newly-wed special. Medjumbe Private Island offers guests one free night for a five-night-stay (stay 5/ pay 4) AND one free return island transfer from Pemba to Medjumbe (per couple, per stay), until 22 December 2013. Experience this spectacular paradise retreat and save!

This looks like an absolutely fabulous resort! We were hoping to add Mozambique to the end of our African safari – but couldn’t make it work. So we decompressed in Zanzibar instead. One of the resorts we stayed at was andBeyond Mnemba Island Lodge – also a private island resort with just 10 eco-chic bandas.
